“The 2015 Haut-Bergey is superb right now. Aromas of black cherry, plum, hard candy, and mint take center stage. This decidedly succulent Pessac-Léognan has gained considerable body and developed texture and complexity in the barrels. It is superb right now.” (Vinous)

Nose
A sweet and intense bouquet, with notes of blackcurrant liqueur and blackberry jam
Palate
Powerful and full-bodied, with a sweet, rich character. Aromas of dark fruits—blackberries and black plums—with hints of spice (licorice). Firm tannins and a slight bitterness; they should soften with a little time in the bottle.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 14/20 (Good wine)
Rated estate (2018 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the wine:
Tannic and sweet at the same time.
About the estate:
Haut-Bergey is one of those unclassified Léognan wines that has been given the means to compete on equal footing with the classified ones. The Garcin family, with the successive assistance of Michel Rolland, Jean-Luc Thunevin, and Alain Raynaud, has gradually transformed it into a flagship estate: today, the white wine slightly outshines the red in character, while the red needs a few years to mellow. Recently, Haut-Bergey has also begun producing a delightful rosé. In 1996, Sylviane Garcin purchased Château Branon, 6.5 hectares planted equally with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which produce a particularly charming Pessac-Léognan. The reds are generally well-structured and balanced; while they were often heavy in the past and required several years of aging to reach their peak, recent vintages show a shift toward greater elegance.
