"Extremely aromatic and refreshing, it shows great promise for the future. A real treat!"

“Delicious aromas, lovely freshness with notes of menthol and eucalyptus. A remarkable texture right from the first sip and a beautiful density of fruit. This wine is elegant and well-crafted, with a precise expression of fruit, refreshing acidity, and a slight creaminess. The menthol-like minerality is particularly pronounced; the flavor of freshly picked mint and eucalyptus lingers on the palate, outlasting the aromas of blackcurrant and ripe black cherries, with silky, round, and supple tannins. Exceptionally rich and deep, it offers remarkable freshness and drinkability. A true delight. » (Decanter 2022)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Flanked by Carbonnieux and Haut-Bailly, it is one of Pessac-Léognan’s most effective ambassadors worldwide. The wines—both reds and whites—are powerful and consistently excellent, aging superbly. The Sauvignon-style whites, distinguished and exquisitely fresh, are among the appellation’s must-try wines. The reds now rival the whites, with a powerful and vigorous style that is by no means lacking in elegance.

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine Rating (2023 Guide): 2* Stars (Outstanding Wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

With a clear, brilliant red color, this wine—partly aged in amphorae—reveals a generous bouquet of ripe fruits (cherry, red currant), combined with well-integrated oak. On the palate, it is firm and powerful, reinforced by tight tannins and a long, taut finish that is still a bit austere but full of promise for the future. 2026–2032

About the estate:

Although unclassified, Ch. la Louvière—bordering Carbonnieux and Haut-Bailly—is nonetheless an iconic cru of Pessac-Léognan, thanks to the elegance of its château (designated a historic monument), the age of its vineyard (14th century), the role of its owner (André Lurton, who passed away in May 2019) in the creation of the AOC, and the consistent quality of its wines.

Rated Estate (2022 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the excellence of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

André Lurton, who passed away in June 2019, was a prominent figure in the Bordeaux region and one of the key architects behind the creation of the Pessac-Léognan appellation in 1987. He had acquired La Louvière in 1965 and never ceased to promote this popular, accessible, and consistent wine. The program to modernize and improve vineyard management continues under the leadership of Jacques Lurton, who is also bringing a fresh approach to the winery, with a winemaking process that now places a strong emphasis on terracotta jars.

About the wine:

With a history spanning seven centuries, this family-owned estate in Lurton produces a full-bodied wine structured by dark, smoky tannins. Aromas of blackcurrant and lovely acidity balance out its structure. This wine will improve with aging and will be ready to drink starting in 2026. — Roger Voss

Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

Aromas of dark red fruits unfold on the nose and palate. The whole is enhanced by notes of cigar box, flowers, and a hint of spice on the finish. Fresh, lively, elegant, long, and refined, it reveals aromas of smoked cherry and black raspberry on the finish. Let it age for a few years, and it will become an even better wine. Best enjoyed between 2024 and 2037.
