"Both fresh and ageable, this is a beautifully structured, dynamic wine that makes you want to come back for more. One of the best Seconds vins, I love it! ~ Decanter "

“30% whole clusters for the 2022. The bouquet shines with brilliance, with notes of garrigue that evoke freshness, as well as nuances of strawberries, raspberries, and licorice. The salinity of the attack, the present energy, and the precision of the tannins form an impressive whole. The wine is crisp, luscious, flavorful, mouthwatering, and juicy. It is luminous, festive, and exhilarating, benefiting from the insistent support of a fine austerity that celebrates the aromatic character on the palate while extending the finish. A C des Carmes of exceptional quality!” (Yves Beck 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

A small neighboring cru to Haut-Brion, also saved from the urbanization of Pessac, Les Carmes Haut-Brion produces a very harmonious, subtle wine, in which Cabernet Franc in particular contributes its incomparable finesse. The property was purchased in December 2010 by Patrice Pichet, head of the real estate group Patrimoniale Foncière Pichet. 2016 was the first vintage to be vinified in the magnificent, bold winery designed by Philippe Starck and Luc Arsène-Henry. Patrice Pichet has entrusted the management of the estate to the talented and perfectionist Guillaume Pouthier, who is taking the estate to the level of the best.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Seductive and intensely perfumed, this wine is bursting with blackcurrant, cherry and subtle spices. Its crystalline acidity brings immediate freshness and vivacity, while supple, delicate tannins give it a silky texture without heaviness. Energetic and dynamic, it combines purity and precision. The Carmes signature is fully revealed: pure fruit, supple tannins and a long, elegant structure. Flavors of cherry, quetsche and redcurrant give way to a mineral finish, reminiscent of oyster shell, with a hint of saltiness. Both fresh and ageable, this is a beautifully structured, dynamic wine that makes you want to come back for more. One of the best Seconds vins, I love it. 31% whole-cluster fermentation. 2025-2040

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Domaine noté (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

Embedded in the Bordeaux urban area, like its neighbor Haut-Brion, this 4.7-hectare cru owes its name to the Grands Carmes, its owners until the French Revolution, when it was sold as national property. A wine merchant bought it and in 1840 passed it on to the Chantecaille family, who kept it until 2010, when it was bought by the Pichet real estate group. In 2012, Patrice Pichet bought part of Ch. le Thil Comte Clary, doubling its surface area from 4.7 ha to 10.3 ha.

Wine rated ( 2025 guide) 94/100 (Great wine)

About the wine:

This year, C des Carmes Haut-Brion 2022 far exceeds its usual standards. On the nose, it reveals a greedy, lively and expressive bouquet of raspberry, blackberry, rose, violet and blackcurrant. Well-structured, it offers a silky texture and fine, velvety tannins, as well as beautiful fruity depth. Its elegant, harmonious finish highlights its unique personality. Guillaume Pouthier, Guillaume Deschepper and their team have done a remarkable job, producing an exceptional wine. 2026-2037

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France

Domaine rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (They represent the excellence of the French vineyard. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment)

About the domain :

Les Carmes Haut-Brion's distinctive style, defined by audacious vinification methods and the use of whole grapes, has established it as one of the most original crus in the appellation, and indeed in the whole of Bordeaux. The expression of the fruit appears "infused" - a fashionable term, but perfectly justified here - and the touch of the tannin singularly fine. It must also be said that the property acquired by the Pichet family in 2010 is based on an original terroir, adjacent to the even earlier Haut-Brion, and occupied by a significant proportion of very old vines, notably Cabernet Franc. The modernization of the winemaking facilities has enabled the cru to achieve one success after another in recent vintages, following a truly impressive crescendo, which justifies the third star awarded two years ago.

About the wine:

Aromas burst from the glass, offering a multitude of flowers, pears, red fruits, rose stems and fresh redcurrants. There's also a hint of forest fruits. Full-bodied, with lots of juicy fruit and a creamy texture. Already open and delicious, it offers remarkable intensity. 30% whole-cluster fermentation. Second wine of Les Carmes Haut-Brion. Best enjoyed after 2027, but already fantastic today.

About the wine:

A fresh, intriguing nose, almost Burgundian in expression, with delicate pinot fruit. Voluptuous, with bewitching notes of violet and violet candy. On the palate, it gradually builds in intensity, with a sappy edge and dazzling freshness. 2026-2040
