Château Picque Caillou
Just outside Bordeaux, the Picque Caillou Castle is located in the heart of the Graves region, not far from the prestigious Haut-Brion and Pape Clément. Situated within the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the terroir of this 21-hectare vineyard is stony, composed of fine gravel, as its name suggests. It is one of the historic châteaux surrounding the town, the cradle of the Bordeaux wine region.
2006 marked a turning point, thanks to Paul Calvet’s leadership, which focused Château Picque Caillou’s efforts on consistency and improved the quality of its wines. Supported by two consulting oenologists, Valérie Lavigne and the late Denis Dubourdieu, and now by its own team, the estate continues to thrive, producing elegant wines characterized by purity and fruitiness that reflect their terroirs.
The vineyard is planted primarily with red grape varieties, consisting of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot; for the white wines, the blend is mostly Sauvignon with a small amount of Sémillon.
