Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About wine:

The nose is rich and expressive, with ripe fruit, soft floral notes, and pronounced minerality; the palate is full-bodied, with great energy and delicious aromas that linger. Well-crafted, taut, and very balanced.

About the estate:

Picque-Caillou is one of the last estates located in the heart of the Bordeaux metropolitan area: 21 hectares of beautiful stony soil, as its name suggests. In 2006, Paulin Calvet took the reins of this family-owned vineyard. Drawing on his experience at Moueix, he set out to restore the reputation of this beautiful vineyard, supported in this endeavor by the late Denis Dubourdieu and now by his team. It’s fair to say that over the past few vintages he has succeeded, as the wines continue to improve. Here, the focus is on elegance, pure fruit, expression of the terroir, and balance. The estate deserves a second star.

Wine noted (guide 2021) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

A lovely bouquet with fresh minty notes and a lively, crisp palate make for a very pleasant white wine.

About the estate:

Located in the heart of the Bordeaux metropolitan area, this vineyard—whose name evokes its terroir—has been managed since 2007 by Paulin Calvet, a member of the renowned Calvet family of wine merchants, who have owned the estate since 1947. Covering 22 hectares, it is one of the last remaining vineyards in Mérignac. The estate is managed in accordance with an environmental management system.

Rated wine (2019 guide) 90–92/100 (Excellent wine)

Rated Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

The 2018 Picque-Caillou Blanc offers intense aromas of fresh lime juice, green mango, and fresh pear, with hints of orange blossom, chalk dust, and yuzu. Ranging from light to full-bodied, it features a crisp, refreshing character that cuts through the intense layers of citrus and tropical fruit, leading to a long, chalky finish.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 93/100

About wine:

Tasted directly from the barrel. This wine starts off crisp and evolves into a fuller, rounder profile. It features a lively acidity that contrasts with flavors of ripe apple and pear. The aging process, which is still ongoing, is meticulously managed and adds a subtle touch in the background.
