“2020 confirms Montrose’s status as one of the leading contemporary estates in the Médoc and a Premier Cru! ~ Wine Advocate”
"Surpassing the 2019 and rivaling the 2016 as this estate’s finest vintage in recent decades, the 2020 Château Montrose is a masterpiece in the making. With aromas of violet, black fruit, licorice, loamy earth, black truffle, and subtle spices, it is full-bodied, deep, and layered, with a flawless, elegantly muscular profile, formidable purity and energy, wonderfully powdery tannins, and a long, resonant finish. It has an alcohol content of 13.7%, like the superb 2009, but it is even deeper, more vibrant, and more complex than the latter. It is well worth seeking out and confirms Montrose’s status as one of the leading contemporary estates in the Médoc and as a Premier Cru. ” (Wine Advocate 2023) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide): 5 stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)
About the estate:
The estate belonged to the Charmolüe family for over a century (the family now resides in Provence, at Château Romanin). Purchased in 2005 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the estate has continued on its path to excellence. The new owners and their teams have taken care not to alter the style, but to refine viticulture and winemaking to adapt them to the ecological and cultural demands of our time. The second wine, Dame-de-Montrose, produced in significant quantities, has improved in consistency and expression of the terroir. The latest vintages, among the finest in the Médoc, are more than a match for the First Growths.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2024) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)
About the wine:
The 2020 vintage is undoubtedly a great Montrose. A dense, deep-colored Saint-Estèphe, opening with a delicate bouquet of violets, black fruits (black cherry, plum, blackcurrant), sweet spices, and menthol. On the palate, it combines power, smoothness, finesse, freshness, and length in perfect harmony. The very essence of elegance, leaving a sensation of great purity on the finish.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
Entrepreneurs Martin and Olivier Bouygues have owned this renowned classified growth since 2006. They have masterfully cultivated one of the Médoc’s finest terroirs, which has repeatedly distinguished itself in the past by producing wines that can match—or even surpass—the quality of the first growths. In hot, dry years, such as 2003, 2009, 2010, or even 2011, Montrose offers exceptional distinction. Hervé Berland, who now manages the estate, is elevating it to a level of definition and precision never before seen here. It is approaching a third star.
Vinous
Wine rated (2022 guide) 99/100 (Antonio Galloni)
About the wine:
The 2020 Château Montrose is epic. Dark, rich, and intense, the 2020 possesses remarkable intensity without being overly heavy. Time in the glass brings out the wine’s more elegant and sophisticated side. All the elements are so well balanced. Red and purple fruits, lavender, rose petals, gravel, and spices are all accentuated by veins of intense minerality that give them shape and energy. The 2020 is a modern classic for Montrose and one of the greatest wines of the Left Bank. 2030–2070
James Suckling

About the wine:
The nose is truly fantastic, with notes of graphite shavings, iron shavings, blackcurrant, and lavender. Full-bodied to medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that carry through the entire length of the wine. Wonderful persistence and character. Juicy and flavorful finish. Always classy and sophisticated to the end. Grapes from organic farming. Best after 2028.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 100/100
About the wine:
The bouquet possesses the elegance of a dancer and the warmth of a mother’s embrace. There is freshness, confidence, and depth in the aromas of damson plum, cherry pit, bay leaf, and stone. Beauty in a glass. This is not a wine; it is a statue. Its form, its message, and the gentle caress of the marble transport you to the Rodin Museum. This wine is a kiss. 2031–2061

Wine rated (2022 guide) 99/100
About the wine:
The Dame de Montrose had already hinted at it, and the Grand Vin confirms it. It does not reveal itself right away; it prefers to set the stage lighting so that it can present itself perfectly once the curtain rises. The way it reveals itself with precision, relevance, and serenity is impressive. Before the fruit, it is the graphite nuances that mark the bouquet, while the palate reveals its depth and power. The wine shines with consistency, persistence, and vigor. It will go far, very far. 2028–2045
The Wine Cellar Insider - Jeff Leve
Wine rated (2023 guide) 99/100
About the wine:
This wine is truly exceptional and could reach three figures in a few years if it continues to develop. With an inky black color, the wine bursts with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, and tobacco, before revealing deeper notes of Indian spices, chocolate, and cigar box scents. But the real fireworks occur when the wine coats your palate with its multiple layers of dark red fruit, blackberries, and cocoa. Despite its richness, the wine holds its structure well, making it easy to lose yourself in its depth and concentration. The wine is nearly flawless on the palate, lingering, building, and developing for nearly 60 seconds. One of Montrose’s greatest vintages, it marks Hervé Berland’s swan song at the helm of the estate. Best enjoyed between 2029 and 2065.
