"2020 confirms Montrose's status as one of the leading contemporary estates in the Médoc and a Premier Cru! ~ Wine Advocate"
Surpassing 2019 and rivaling 2016 as the estate's finest vintage in recent decades, Château Montrose 2020 is a monument in the making. With aromas of violet, black fruit, licorice, loamy soil, black truffle, and subtle spices, it is full-bodied, deep, and layered, with a flawless and elegantly muscular profile, tremendous purity and energy, wonderfully powdery tannins, and a long, resonant finish. It has 13.7% alcohol, like the superb 2009, but is even deeper, more vibrant, and more complex than the latter. It is worth seeking out and confirms Montrose's status as one of the leading contemporary estates in the Médoc and as a Premier Cru. (Wine Advocate 2023) - Wooden case delivery available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the estate:
The property belonged to the Charmolüe family (now based in Provence, at Château Romanin) for over a century. Purchased in 2005 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the estate has continued on its path to excellence. The new owners and their teams have taken care not to change the style, but to perfect viticulture and winemaking to adapt them to the ecological and cultural requirements of our time. The second wine, Dame-de-Montrose, produced in significant volumes, has improved in consistency and expression of the terroir. The latest vintages, at the top of the Médoc, are easily on a par with the first growths.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2024) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)
About wine:
The 2020 vintage is undoubtedly a great Montrose. A dense and deep Saint-Estèphe with a delicate bouquet of violet, black fruits (black cherry, plum, blackcurrant), sweet spices, and menthol. The palate combines power, smoothness, finesse, freshness, and length in perfect harmony. The very essence of elegance, leaving a sensation of great purity on the finish.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated estate (2021 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
Entrepreneurs Martin and Olivier Bouygues have owned this famous classified growth since 2006. They expertly cultivate one of the Médoc's finest terroirs, which has repeatedly distinguished itself in the past by producing wines that can reach, or even exceed, the level of the first growths. When the year is hot and dry, as was the case in 2003, 2009, 2010, and even 2011, Montrose offers exceptional distinction. Hervé Berland, who now manages it, is taking it to a level of definition and precision never before seen here. It is approaching a third star.
Vinous
Wine rating (2022 guide) 99/100 (Antonio Galloni)
About wine:
Château Montrose 2020 is epic. Dark, rich, and unsettling, the 2020 has remarkable intensity without being overly heavy. Time spent in the glass brings out the wine's more elegant and sophisticated side. All the elements are so well balanced. Red and purple fruits, lavender, rose petals, gravel, and spices are all accentuated by veins of intense minerality that give them shape and energy. The 2020 is a modern classic for Montrose and one of the greatest wines of the left bank. 2030-2070
James Suckling
Wine rated (2023 guide) 99/100
About wine:
The nose is truly fantastic, with notes of graphite, iron filings, blackcurrant, and lavender. Full-bodied to medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that extend throughout the wine. Wonderful persistence and personality. Juicy and flavorful finish. Still classy and sophisticated at the end. Grapes from organic farming. Best after 2028.

About wine:
The bouquet has the elegance of a dancer and the warmth of a mother's embrace. There is freshness, confidence, and depth in the aromas of damson plum, cherry pit, bay leaf, and stone. Beauty in a glass. This is not a wine, it is a statue. Its shape, its message, the soft caress of marble transports you to the Rodin Museum. This wine is a kiss. 2031-2061

Wine rated (2022 guide) 99/100
About wine:
The Lady of Montrose already announced it, and the Grand Vin confirms it. It does not want to reveal itself right away, preferring to adjust the lighting on stage so that it can be shown off to its best advantage once the curtain rises. The way it reveals itself with precision, relevance, and serenity is impressive. Before the fruit, it is the nuances of graphite that mark the bouquet, while the palate reveals its depth and power. The wine is brilliant in its consistency, persistence, and vigor. It will go far, very far. 2028-2045

Wine rated (2023 guide) 99/100
About wine:
This wine is truly exceptional and could reach triple digits within a few years if it continues to develop. Ink black in color, the wine explodes aromatically with blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, and tobacco, before reaching its deeper nuances of Indian spices, chocolate, and cigar box scents. But the real fireworks happen when the wine coats your palate with its multiple layers of dark red fruit, blackberries, and cocoa. Despite all its richness, the wine has good structure, making it easy to get lost in all its depth and concentration. The wine is almost flawless on the palate, lingering, building, and developing for nearly 60 seconds. One of Montrose's greatest vintages is Hervé Berland's swan song at the helm of the estate. Drink between 2029 and 2065.
