Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (2014 guide) 17/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide): 5 stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)

About the wine:

Fruity vibrancy, delicate tannins, very silky, not overpowering, very classic; vibrant but lacking a bit of energy, with a refined, elegant finish.

About the estate:

The estate belonged to the Charmolüe family for over a century (the family now resides in Provence, at Château Romanin). Purchased in 2005 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, the estate has continued on its path to excellence. The new owners and their teams have taken care not to alter the style, but to refine viticulture and winemaking to adapt them to the ecological and cultural demands of our time. The second wine, Dame-de-Montrose, produced in significant quantities, has improved in consistency and expression of the terroir. The latest vintages, among the finest in the Médoc, are more than a match for the First Growths.

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2012 guide) 18/20 (Outstanding)

About the wine:

A supple expression of Cabernet. It shows excellent quality, with a tender and captivating maturity. The concentration is well-defined and elegantly rounds out the finish.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 17/20 (Great wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

The 2011 vintage also produces a top-tier wine, typical of Saint-Estèphe, with a long, tight palate and plenty of class.

About the estate:

Entrepreneurs Martin and Olivier Bouygues have owned this renowned classified growth since 2006. They have masterfully cultivated one of the Médoc’s finest terroirs, which has repeatedly distinguished itself in the past by producing wines that can match—or even surpass—the quality of the first growths. In hot, dry years, such as 2003, 2009, 2010, or even 2011, Montrose offers exceptional distinction. Hervé Berland, who now manages the estate, is elevating it to a level of definition and precision never before seen here. It is approaching a third star.
