"A hidden power"

" A color full of promise, dark burgundy enlivened by youthful purple highlights. The personality of this wine is also expressed through the finesse of its bouquet: a delicate roasted woodiness, giving way to aromas of ripe blackcurrant and blueberry. Full-bodied and round, vinous, structured by good licorice tannins, harmonious and persistent, the palate, in unison with the nose, shows great poise. " A hidden power," concludes one taster. A superb wine for aging." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2018) Delivery in wooden crates for all orders of 12 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method).

Wine rated 17/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)

About wine:

Delicate notes on the nose, between cedar and root nuances, fresh, very elegant, not very full-bodied but racy, balanced, exemplary Médoc.

About the estate:

This vast wine estate, which is as consistent as its neighbor Gruaud-Larose, has seen its vines age and give the grand wine an unprecedented intensity, while refining its style over the past three years thanks to the efforts of the current technical team. Its wine is a straightforward, classic, almost mineral expression of the best soils of Saint-Julien, revealing an undeniable similarity in flavor and style with Léoville-Las-Cases, which is no small compliment. Excellent value for money.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

5-star rated estate (Outstanding production)

About the estate:

It is often thanks to the determination of the owner that Bordeaux châteaux are able to find their expression. Lagrange was unlucky, changing owners frequently. It was not until the arrival of the Japanese group Suntory in 1983 that it received the attention it deserved: restoration of the vineyard, a new winery and, above all, a crack team led by Marcel Ducasse—replaced in 2007 by Bruno Eynard, who had assisted him for 17 years. The new winery is now used for even more sophisticated plot-by-plot vinification.

Wine rating (2017 guide) 92/100 (Outstanding wine)

Rated Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

The 2014 Lagrange has indeed pulled itself up, as I said when tasting the wine in barrel. Now bottled, it has a somewhat closed and tertiary nose of introverted black fruits mixed with aromas of cedar and sandalwood. It seems tight at the moment, but the concentration is satisfactory here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins on entry, although the Merlot becomes more prominent towards the finish and offers a lovely fleshy and balanced finish with a touch of black pepper on the aftertaste. A modest but elegant Lagrange, it is exactly what you would expect.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

It is strongly marked by the integrity of its Cabernets, which guide the palate and give it depth. Slightly austere at this stage, it nevertheless has good length.

About the estate:

Acquired by the Japanese group Suntory in 1983, the château quickly established itself as a reliable and consistent performer within the appellation, producing elegant, well-structured and consistently affordable wines. A vast estate run with great professionalism, but whose latest vintages, while still worthy, seemed a little less convincing to us. In a highly competitive world, faced with neighbors who spare no detail in their quest to produce the greatest wines possible, Lagrange seems a little static, which has led us to remove its star.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 94/100

About wine:

Firm and still a little harsh with solid tannins, the ripe fruitiness of the wine is developing well. The combination shows great potential. Blackcurrant and berries are both present with a crisp, juicy acidity. The aftertaste reminds us that this wine still has a long way to go. Drink from 2024 onwards.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended

About wine:

This is a classic Saint-Julien with red fruit and herbs on the nose. The oak is fairly discreet on both the nose and palate. Then the serious but rather elegant dry tannins come through on the long finish. Drink from 2022 onwards.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 16,5/20

About wine:

A very elegant, discreet, balanced wine, it does not seek to impress, but is very harmonious, still holding back. It has plenty of potential, as they say.
