Château Sigalas Rabaud
Château Sigalas Rabaud, located less than 500 meters from Château d’Yquem, is owned by the Lambert family. The Rabaud estate, established around 1660, was redesigned in 1903, when Mr. de Sigalas crafted a “jewel of terroir” by combining the sunny, gravelly plots from the property his father had purchased forty years earlier. Six generations later, the grandchildren of the last representative of the eldest branch of the Sigalas family, the Marquise de Lambert des Granges, bring the same passion to cultivating the vineyards and raising the wines.
Château Sigalas Rabaud comprises 14 hectares of vineyards, making it the smallest of the Premiers Crus Classés of 1855. The environment and respect for biodiversity are priorities at Sigalas-Rabaud. Pest control is increasingly based on precise observations. “Massale selection” allows the estate to preserve the old vine stock that contributes to Sigalas-Rabaud’s very distinctive flavor. Bud thinning, leaf removal, and suckering—and especially during the harvest, numerous and very precise “selections”—ensure that only the finest botrytis-affected grapes are harvested at peak ripeness.
Château Sigalas Rabaud produces a refined, fresh, and elegant Sauternes that combines the structure of 85% Sémillon with the charm of 15% Sauvignon. Discreet, understated, and described as a “wine for connoisseurs,” it is a pleasure to discover when young, and its aromas of blooming linden trees and white fruits typically persist for over a century.
