“As a Premier Cru, the 2021 Troesmes is dense and compact, like a string of small pebbles on the palate. Still in its shell, it remains reserved. ” (Le Guide RVF 2024). Full of finesse, this 2021 Chablis 1er Cru Troesmes is a delight. The palate, powerful and aromatic yet with great complexity and elegance, is pure indulgence. Full-bodied and rich, an irresistible cuvée!

Rated estate (2021 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

This friendly couple of winemakers has taken a significant step forward by switching to organic viticulture, which began earning certification with the 2014 vintage. The grapes’ beautiful ripeness is well balanced by a lively acidity derived from the limestone soils, and barrel aging increasingly highlights the nuances of the terroir. Produced from a very distinctive subsoil known as Hauterivien, the Petit-Chablis is consistently remarkable for its richness; the red wine from the Yonne is among the very best in the region; and the Premier Crus from the Poinchy sector (Léchet, Beauroy, Fourchaume) are now reliable choices for wine lovers. Like others in the area, the estate unfortunately suffered from the weather conditions of the 2016 vintage. Sadly, 2017 began with a terrible frost… Hence the “grain-de-survie” cuvée, sold through the wine trade, to offer a small amount of wine to regular customers. The Petit Chablis and generic Chablis wines lack their usual precision; the Premier Crus will hold up better. Can’t wait for the 2018s!

Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

As a first vintage, Troesmes 2021 is dense and compact, like a string of small pebbles on the palate. Still in its shell, it remains reserved.

About the estate:

Isabelle and Denis Pommier settled in the village of Poinchy in 1990, starting with 2 hectares of vineyards (23 today). Some of the premier cru wines undergo partial fermentation in oak, and all winemaking is carried out using native yeasts. The entire production is of impeccable quality, particularly the entry-level wines. Certified organic since 2014, this estate has produced superb wines that are always well-ripened, but freshness is not always present: with regret, we are removing the star, hoping for a return to better balance soon.
