Corton C. Castle
Reminiscent of the Hospices de Beaune with its traditional Burgundian architecture, Château Corton C. was founded in the late 19th century in the heart of the Corton hills, on the road to Aloxe Corton
Now classified as a "Historic Monument," Château Corton C is not only a historical gem, but also a jewel of Burgundian viticulture.
The site itself, known as the "Climats de Bourgogne," is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Chardonnay has been grown here since the time of Emperor Charlemagne and is said to have conquered the courts of Europe, winning the unwavering loyalty of the famous writer Voltaire, who was an avid consumer of Château Corton C.
Today, this exceptional terroir is managed with love and respect by oenologist and winemaker Caroline Frey, who, thanks to her commitment to protecting the environment, was awarded the Insigne de Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite in 2017.
Château Corton C has also been certified organic since 2021 and continues to develop methods that respect nature and biodiversity while enhancing their vintages, which are recognized by critics around the world.
The soils of the Côte de Beaunes are largely composed of clay-limestone, which is perfectly suited to the cultivation of Pinot Noir, which thrives on limestone, and Chardonnay, which loves limestone combined with clayey marl.
Here, Château Corton C covers 7 hectares and spans 13 appellations and climats, including Corton, Corton-Charlemagne, Meursault, Pommard, and Volnay. The vineyard also has a monopoly on a plot representing the "Le Clos du Château" cuvée.
