Chardonnay

"Salty and mouth-watering!"

Perfect as an aperitif or with seafood, Pas si Petit reveals itself to be a delicate wine, with aromas of white flowers and citrus. Notes of lime lend a lovely freshness to this cuvée, which clearly reflects its Chablis origins. A lovely, briny finish that makes your mouth water!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

Chablis’s leading producer consistently delivers a faithful interpretation of the appellation, thanks to the precise and meticulous work of winemaker Vincent Bartement. As always, the wines are released with a one-vintage delay; this year’s release is the 2016 vintage—a complicated year, but one in which the Mont-de-Milieu terroir fared very well. Other terroirs that the winery usually handles well taste a little less impressive this time around—let’s wait for the 2017s!

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in 1923, La Chablisienne is a cooperative winery that brings together nearly 300 winegrowers and represents a quarter of the Chablis vineyards; it celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2013. It is a modern, high-performing organization that contributes significantly to the appellation’s reputation. The Grenouilles grand cru is one of its flagship wines.

Rated Estate (2020 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

The largest producer of Chablis ranks among France’s top cooperatives, demonstrating equal skill in both business and winemaking. Among the many vintages produced, it can be difficult to choose, but all the wines now benefit from flawless technical expertise in pressing and aging on lees. The standout specialties include the consistently excellent Chablis Vieilles Vignes and the Premiers Crus in heavy bottles, which rival the finest wines from private estates—not to mention the famous Grand Cru Château Grenouilles, which should not be drunk too young! The entry-level wines have improved significantly and have shed the reductive notes that once characterized them. La Chablisienne is in fine form!

A good introduction to Chablis. The Chardonnay character is recognizable, and the balance on the palate is decent.

An excellent vintage for a small wine, though slightly below the 2018; deserves at least a 3.5 out of 5.
