“Eighty-year-old Chardonnay vines, meticulously cultivated and vinified, have produced this pale gold wine with a distinctive aromatic profile: mango, vine peach, passion fruit, and quince. The palate, round on the attack, builds in intensity and body, and lingers into a long, spicy finish.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021)

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated wine (2021 guide): 2 stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

Carefully cultivated and expertly vinified 80-year-old Chardonnay vines have produced this pale gold wine with a distinctive bouquet of mango, vine peach, passion fruit, and quince. The palate, which starts off round, builds in intensity and body, and lingers into a long, spicy finish.

About the estate:

Having caught the winemaking bug at a very young age while helping his parents in the vineyards, Guy Saumaize naturally gravitated toward a career as a winemaker; he also established a renowned nursery that was frequented by many local producers. Annie, his wife, took over the reins after his passing in 2013. Since 2018, their son Guillaume has been at the helm of this 15-hectare estate, which he has renamed: Dom. des Maillettes has become Dom. G. Saumaize.
