Pouilly-Vinzelles

The Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) is a village appellation in the Mâconnais region of Saône-et-Loire, defined in 1931 and recognized in 1940, which may be followed by the name of a climat, a locality designating a particular terroir. The Pouilly-Vinzelles AOC production area is located in the communes of Vinzelles and Loché.

Neighboring the Solutré archaeological complex, the Pouilly-Vinzelles wine appellation is based on the same Jurassic rocks (Bathonian and Bajocian) that crown the Mâconnais mountains. The soils, which vary mainly according to the relief between the top and bottom of the slope, are predominantly clay-limestone with an iron-rich color. The average altitude (200 to 250 meters) and eastern exposure are ideal for Chardonnay in this fairly southern continental climate, allowing for early harvests and producing rich, powerful musts. Pouilly-Vinzelles wine is vinified by ambitious young winemakers using the best traditional methods.

Pouilly-Vinzelles wines are white wines made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape variety. They offer a fruity, citrusy aromatic profile. After 3 to 5 years in the bottle, they acquire power and roundness. The Domaine de la Soufrandière - Bret Brothers has become a must-try in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation.
