Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100 (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

The 2022 La Vizcaína La Poulosa is the wine that suffered the most from the effects of the 2022 heatwave, as it comes from the hottest part of the region. It has a dark color and a very ripe nose, bordering on overripeness, with notes of prunes, dates, and a hint of warm earth. The palate is rustic with abundant tannins and a powdery finish. 2024–2028

Review by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on October 18, 2025

Medium-deep ruby with a cherry-red rim. Nose: earthy, mushroomy, with distant hints of red fruit and wild berries. Quite layered, but with atypical aromas: a bit of organic this and that. Natural wine!? On the palate, it’s also immediately atypical; you get the impression that the wine is corked or has some impurity, yet there are red berries and wild raspberries, along with some earthiness and those mushrooms again. A very quirky wine that I’m learning to appreciate more and more with every sip! It also has a bit of a Beaujolais-like quality. Score: 16/20
