Bierzo
The Bierzo designation of origin is located in the northeast of the province of León. The DO (Denominación de origen) Bierzo, recently awarded in 1989, covers the vineyards of 22 municipalities. Today, vines cover an area of approximately 6,500 hectares. The Bierzo production area is divided into numerous small valleys in the mountainous part (Alto Bierzo) and a large plain (Bajo Bierzo).

The Bierzo vineyards are planted on soils composed of a mixture of quartz and schist and benefit from the region's characteristic hot, dry climate. The low altitude prevents late frosts and promotes early ripening of the grapes. These local characteristics allow the vines to flourish. The quality of the Bierzo terroir is perfectly expressed in the wines produced by Bodega Mengoba and Bodegas de Cacabelos.

Bierzo wines are produced according to strict rules. Bierzo red wines are mainly made from Mencia and Garnacha Tintorera grapes, while Bierzo white wines are made from Doña Blanca, Godello, and Palomino grapes.
