"According to Robert Parker, this vintage has a unique character that seems to transcend both the terroir and the vintage!"

“On the nose, aromas of black cherries, lively energy, and a delicate floral note. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine displays lovely tension and an elegant expression of fruit—subtle yet flavorful—supported by fine tannins. Savory and delicious. From a very old vineyard, rooted in deep clay soils, located in the village of Valtuille de Abajo. Drink now or cellar.” (James Suckling 2025)

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

The Vizcaína Las Gundiñas 2023 has a more herbaceous nose, coming from old vines that may contain 5% white grape varieties. It was a wet year in a humid terroir, a vineyard that retains water very well during drier years. It offers a distinct character that seems to transcend the terroir and the vintage (Raúl Pérez compared it to the 2013), and it is more aromatic. I still believe this plot performs better in drier years. 5,000 bottles produced. 2025–2031

About the wine:

Las Gundiñas 2023 is a blend of Mencía, Trousseau, and up to 10% Doña Blanca from a century-old vineyard. It was fermented using 100% whole clusters and aged for up to 11 months in oak barrels. It opens with enticing herbaceous aromas of tart cherry, with a distant note of violet and a hint of rosehip. The palate is firm and structured, with great aromatic intensity. This fresh vintage perfectly embodies the style, and the character of the whole-cluster fermentation leaves a compact, slightly austere finish that promises to blossom in the bottle. 2025–2037
