Campo de Borja

The Campo de Borja appellation is a "Denominación de Origen" located in the north-western part of the province of Zaragoza, in northern Spain. The oldest vineyards in the Campo de Borja D.O. date back to 1145. The Do label was awarded to Campo de Borja in 1978, and covers an area of 7,500 hectares, spanning 16 municipalities.

The grape varieties used to make Campo de Borja wines are varied, but the appellation's king grape is unquestionably Grenache. This variety accounts for over 60% of Campo de Borja D.O. vines. Single-varietal Grenache wines have made the appellation famous the world over. Red wines are also made from Tempranillo, Mazuela, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah grapes. White wines are made from Macabeu, Chardonnay and Moscatel. The DO Campo de Borja appellation is authorized for all three wine colors, crianza, reserva and gran reserva, as well as for certain sweet wines. Production is not very high, but the wine is of high quality and highly appreciated for its aromatic complexity.
