Rueda

Rueda is a designation of origin located in the Castilla y León region of Spain. The Denominación de Origen designation was granted to Rueda wines in 1980. In fact, it was the first designation of origin to be officially recognized in this region.

The Rueda terroir primarily produces white wines from the Verdejo (at least 85%), Palomino, Viura, and Sauvignon Blanc grape varieties. The main production towns are Rueda, La Seca, and Serrada, although the appellation covers a larger area.

For the production of Rueda white wines, the Verdejo grape variety has a thick, resilient skin that is rich in aromas. Skin contact is most commonly used to optimize the aromatic quality of this variety. Rich in glycerin, the wine is full-bodied and leads to a delightfully fresh finish.
