Naoussa
The Naoussa appellation is a single-varietal PDO dedicated exclusively to the Xinomavro grape variety, with wines from this terroir producing some of its finest expressions.
This appellation spans 333 hectares in the heart of the Imathia region, in Central Macedonia, on hillsides ranging in elevation from 150 to 400 meters, with soils that are largely clay-limestone, loamy, and sandy.
The Xinomavro grape variety is often compared to Italy’s Nebbiolo; its delicate color, firm tannins, and vibrant acidity generally result in refined and elegant wines with aging potential.
A Naoussa wine may be designated "Reserve" if it has been aged for at least two years, including at least 12 months in oak barrels, and "Grande Reserve" for a minimum of four years, including 18 months in oak barrels.
