Wine rated (2021 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

The wealthy Boroli family acquired this estate in the 1990s, but in recent years, some of the vineyards have been sold. The Brunella from Castiglione Falletto is the estate’s exclusive wine, and it is aged in both barriques and large oak barrels. The nose is spicy and fragrant, with aromas of raspberries and dried herbs. It is velvety, concentrated, and full-bodied, with polished tannins and delicate acidity. Sophisticated and elegant, with a long finish. 2021–2034

Rated wine (2018 guide) 91/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

The 2013 Barolo Brunella is a dry, austere expression of Nebbiolo. The bouquet reveals aromas of dried fruit, spices, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is balanced, fresh, and elegant. It is a lovely wine with a long, clean finish. 2018–2028

Wine rated 94/100 (Exceptional wine)

About the wine:

This red wine is a balance of sweet, ripe cherries and strawberries, tobacco and mineral notes, and dense, firm tannins. It’s still somewhat reserved at this stage, but the long finish, with its fruity and savory notes, shows great potential. Best enjoyed from 2022 to 2042.

Excellent—it lives up to its promise as a Barolo that has already matured well
