“If you haven’t yet taken an interest in the white wines of the Hérault, here’s an excellent reason to do so. La RVF”
“If you haven’t yet explored the white wines of the Hérault region, here’s an excellent reason to do so. Une et Mille Nuits is a blend of 75% Piquepoul and 25% Bourboulenc. The nose immediately captivates with its briny character, making you want to open a few oysters. The palate is harmonious, with a lively backbone balanced by a caressing texture. The aniseed-tinged, subtly bitter finish only enhances the pleasure.” (La Revue du Vin de France - July/August 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Marc Valette crafted wines in his own image—full-bodied and all expressing a clear power. He practices organic farming and limits himself to very low yields. He has shifted the entire range toward wines that are much more drinkable sooner. At the top of the range, the Maghani wine takes its name from the “wine of the Magi” in the quatrains of the great Persian poet Omar Khayyam. We have a particular fondness for the entry-level wines, notably Ivresses and Une et mille nuits. The next generation is already in place with Marc’s son, Camille, starting with the 2024 harvest.

About the wine:
If you haven’t yet explored the white wines of the Hérault region, here’s an excellent reason to do so. “Une et Mille Nuits” is a blend of 75% Piquepoul and 25% Bourboulenc. The nose immediately captivates with its briny character, making you want to crack open a few oysters. The palate is harmonious, with a lively structure balanced by a smooth, velvety texture. The aniseed-tinged, subtly bitter finish only enhances the pleasure.
About the estate:
In Saint-Chinian, Marc Valette is one of those pioneers, having produced quality wines since the early 1990s. “It was Jean-François Izarn (Domaine Borie La Vitarèle) who sparked it all. After meeting him, I went from being a simple farmer to a wine enthusiast,” says this humble winemaker with a big heart. His limestone vineyard, with its alkaline soil, comprises 21 hectares of organic land surrounding the winery. In the mid-2000s, when Marc decided to produce more elegant wines and found his signature style: they would strike a balance between finesse and complexity, thanks to grapes harvested at a younger stage and gentler extraction methods. The profile of the wines—pleasant when young and capable of great things with aging—is appealing in more ways than one. The quality of the vintages tasted this year and the pleasure they provide confirm the well-deserved nature of the second star.
