"If you haven't yet taken an interest in the whites of the Hérault region, here's an excellent reason to do so. La RVF"

"If you haven't yet taken an interest in white wines from the Hérault region, here's an excellent reason to do so. Une et Mille Nuits is a blend of 75% Piquepoul and 25% Bourboulenc. The nose immediately seduces with its salty character, making you want to open a few oysters. The palate is harmonious with a lively backbone balanced by a caressing texture. The aniseed-flavored, delicately bitter finish only adds to the pleasure." (La Revue du Vin de France - July/August 2025)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Marc Valette crafted wines in his own image, full-bodied wines that all expressed obvious power. He works organically and limits himself to very small yields. He has developed the entire range towards wines that can be drunk much sooner. At the top of the range, the Maghani wine takes its name from the wine of the Magi in the quatrains of the great Persian poet Omar Khayyam. We are particularly fond of the entry-level wines, notably Ivresses and Une et mille nuits. Marc's son Camille will be taking over from him after the 2024 harvest.

Wine rating (2025 guide) 91/100 (Review no. 692 - July/August 2025)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

If you haven't yet taken an interest in white wines from the Hérault region, here's an excellent reason to do so. Une et Mille Nuits is a blend of 75% Piquepoul and 25% Bourboulenc. The aniseed-flavored, delicately bitter finish only adds to the pleasure.

About the estate:

In Saint-Chinian, Marc Valette is one of these pioneers, producing quality wines since the early 1990s. "It was Jean-François Izarn (Domaine Borie La Vitarèle) who sparked my interest. When I met him, I was just a simple farmer, but I became passionate about wine," says this humble winemaker with a big heart. His limestone vineyard, with its alkaline soil, covers 21 hectares of organic land surrounding the cellar. In the mid-2000s, Marc decided to produce more elegant wines and found his signature style: wines balanced between finesse and complexity, thanks to harvesting less ripe grapes and gentler extraction methods. The profile of the wines, which are pleasant when young and capable of great things when aged, is appealing in more ways than one. The quality of the wines tasted this year and the pleasure they provide confirm the validity of the second star.
