Bettane & Desseauve

“Thismarks the estate’s third consecutive ‘ Favorite ’ award for its Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, which make a dynamic pairing here. “Marin” because a lovely, refreshing breeze blows here, tempering the natural power of perfectly ripe fruit. Very luscious, with barely a hint of oak (15% of the blend), the nose enchants with its full-bodied fruit notes of cherry, red berries, and wild berries. Full-bodied, round, and supported by velvety tannins, the palate delivers crisp fruit notes tinged with a delicious hint of vanilla, with freshness and without any lack of structure. Sensual and rich, this beautiful wine offers a delicious balance between ripeness and vigor. The jury bows to such grace!” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020)

About the wine:

This is the estate’s third consecutive “ Favorite ” award for its Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, which make a dynamic pairing here. “Marin” because a lovely, refreshing breeze blows here, tempering the natural power of perfectly ripe fruit. Very approachable, with barely a hint of oak (15% of the blend), the nose enchants with its vibrant fruit notes of cherry, red berries, and wild berries. Full-bodied, round, and supported by velvety tannins, the palate delivers crisp fruit notes tinged with a delicious hint of vanilla, with freshness and no hint of flabbiness. Sensual and rich, this beautiful wine offers a delicious balance between ripeness and vigor. The jury is in awe of such grace!

About the estate:

Just a stone's throw from the city of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi, the Château de Paretlongue was founded in the 12th century by the canons of Carcassonne on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa, and later passed through the hands of several noble owners. Purchased in 1872 by the Auzias family, wine merchants, it is now run by their descendants, Nathalie and Dominique Auzias, who, following an expansion, now own a single contiguous block of 160 hectares.

Not much aroma, a lot of alcohol. I'm rarely satisfied with Hachette's star ratings...

A very pleasant, fruity nose and a lovely finish emerge after decanting—a step that is essential to bringing out this wine’s full potential.

A good wine, but not worth the 3* Hachette rating in my opinion

I was rather disappointed by this wine, which I didn't find enjoyable at all. Maybe I should wait a little longer?

It is characterized by harsh alcoholic notes that overpower the delicate aromas. The corks are of questionable quality; keep an eye on them.
