Domaine Pierre Clavel
This 27-hectare estate, with its stony soils surrounded by forests and scrubland, spans the remarkable terroirs of Pic Saint Loup and La Méjanelle. The Clavel estate produces wines under three appellations: Coteaux du Languedoc, Pic Saint Loup, and Languedoc - La Méjanelle. Based in Assas, northeast of Montpellier, Estelle, Pierre, and their sons Martin and Antoine continue the work begun by the Clavel family, who originally manufactured nails.
Domaine Clavel is certified organic , and its entire operation is guided by a biodynamic approach. Surrounded by other crops (grains, orchards, meadows, woods, apiaries...), the estate benefits from an extraordinary ecosystem conducive to vine growth.
The Clavel estate’sgrape varietiesaretypical of the Languedoc region: Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Vaccarèse for red wines; Grenache Blanc, Roussane, and Viognier for white wines. Winemaking is traditional and as natural as possible, with minimal use of additives to preserve the integrity of the juice. A system of concrete tanks, 3,500-liter casks, and small 700-liter egg-shaped tanks has been designed for aging the wines.
