"Made primarily from Syrah aged in demi-muids, the 2015 Faugères Raison d'Etre is a magnificent red wine bursting with notes of blackberries, chocolate, and spices. It is a superb, hedonistic wine that remains fresh and lively, with undeniable elegance and lightness, as well as impressive minerality on the finish. It is a very good wine.” (Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck) A sure bet!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

This estate was the pride of Faugères in the 1990s, before being taken over by Julien Seydoux, who arrived here with the humility to learn about the terroir and the desire to bring Les Estanilles back to the forefront. The aging process is gradually adapting to the wines’ characteristics and still has room to improve. The reds are powerful and full of flavor; they are wines with a strong personality.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (2018 guide) 3*** (Exceptional wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

As is often the case, this estate never fails to impress with this cuvée, which was Favorite its 2010 vintage. The 2015 impresses with its deep color, its brilliantly complex bouquet (candied black fruits, cherries in alcohol, cocoa, vanilla, caramel), and its equally expressive palate (ripe black fruits, thyme, mint)—round, concentrated, and powerful, supported by firm yet fine-grained tannins.

About the estate:

In 2009, the self-taught winemaker Julien Seydoux purchased this 44-hectare estate, which is farmed organically and produces wines that are often outstanding. A sure bet.

Rated wine (2017 guide) 92–94/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Made primarily from Syrah aged in demi-muids (with smaller amounts of Grenache and Mourvèdre, both aged in large oak casks), the 2015 Faugères Raison d'Etre is a magnificent red wine bursting with notes of blackberries, chocolate, and spices. It is a superb, hedonistic creation, yet it remains fresh and lively, with undeniable elegance and lightness, as well as impressive minerality on the finish. It is a very good wine.

A surprisingly unremarkable wine: it didn't leave any impression on me at all—I don't remember tasting it at all... And that happened twice. :)

Complex and concentrated; clearly needs another 3–5 years of aging to reach its full potential

A superb bottle; aging has given it structure and well-integrated aromas. Excellent value for the price; it will easily age for a few more years in the cellar.

It’s a very well-made and pleasant wine, but it bothers me because it makes me feel like I’m drinking a wine from the Rhône Valley

1 bottle in mid-February 2020—red fruit and good structure! Very, very good; it could stand to age a few years... or not!

This wine should be decanted or opened several hours before serving to fully appreciate its complexity. Excellent.
