"Made primarily from Syrah aged in demi-muids, the 2015 Faugères Raison d'Etre is a magnificent red wine bursting with notes of blackberries, chocolate, and spices. It is a superb, hedonistic achievement, remaining fresh and lively, with undeniable elegance and lightness, as well as impressive minerality on the finish. This is a very good wine." (Wine Advocate - Jeb Dunnuck) A sure bet!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious production, recommendable, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

This property made Faugères great in the 1990s, before being taken over by Julien Seydoux, who came here with the modesty to learn about the terroir and the desire to bring Les Estanilles back to the forefront. The wines are gradually adapting to the raw materials and still have room for improvement. The reds are powerful and flavorful, wines with strong personalities.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 3*** (Exceptional wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

As is often the case, this estate leaves no one indifferent with this cuvée, which was Favorite its 2010 vintage. The 2015 impresses with its deep color, its dazzlingly complex nose (candied black fruits, cherries in alcohol, cocoa, vanilla, caramel) and its equally expressive palate (ripe black fruits, thyme, mint), which is round, concentrated and powerful, supported by solid but fine-grained tannins.

About the estate:

In 2009, self-taught Julien Seydoux bought this 44-hectare estate, which is run organically and produces some truly remarkable Faugères wines. A sure bet.

About wine:

Made primarily from Syrah aged in demi-muids (there are smaller quantities of Grenache and Mourvèdre, both aged in oak barrels), the 2015 Faugères Raison d'Etre is a magnificent red wine bursting with notes of blackberries, chocolate, and spices. It is a superbly hedonistic achievement, yet remains fresh and lively, with undeniable elegance and lightness, as well as impressive minerality on the finish. This is a very good wine.

A surprisingly modest wine: it left no impression on me whatsoever, no memory of tasting it... And that twice. :)

Complexity, concentration, clearly deserves another 3-5 years in the cellar to reach its full potential.

A superb bottle, aging has given it structure and mellow aromas. Very good value for money, will easily keep for a few more years in the cellar.

It is a very well-made and pleasant wine, but it bothers me because I feel like I am drinking a wine from the Rhone Valley.
