Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
"Les Creisses" refers to the pebbles. Philippe Chesnelong took over this family estate in 1990. He is assisted by his cousin, Louis Mitjaville, whose reputation extends far beyond Saint-Émilion. The "Les-Brunes" cuvée generally emphasizes power, while the "Des Creisses" cuvée, which is more approachable, bursts with flavor. A truly excellent choice.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on December 2, 2023
An unconventional blend of no fewer than six grape varieties, combined with extended aging in oak, yields a voluptuous and defiantly unique cuvée with autumnal hues. Full-bodied, well-rounded tannins provide a silky texture and perfectly support the intensity of flavors—black cherries, red currants, blackcurrants, and blueberries—steeped in a profusion of spices. Earthy, undergrowth, and vanilla notes round out this rich palette. Harmonious on the palate, it is savory, round, and full-bodied, yet also possesses remarkable depth. On the finish, a subtle minerality brings freshness, while the spices ensure a lingering aftertaste. Very promising aging potential. This southern nectar with a Bordeaux accent makes a sensation when paired with a Fleur d'Aubrac rib of beef with herbs, cooked over vine-stump embers, accompanied by a sauté of the latest fresh porcini mushrooms from Lozère. Score = 4.3.
