Château Pech Redon
The Pech Redon Castle, a prestigious and renowned estate in Languedoc, bears the same name as the mountain overlooking the terroir of La Clape, on the heights of Gruissan, very close to Narbonne. This wild and natural massif of La Clape, is now a protected natural site, with diverse flora and fauna and breathtaking scenery. In June 2015, Coteaux du Languedoc wines La Clape obtain their own municipal designation. TheLa Clape appellation now includes around thirty domains, including the famous Pech Redon Castle.
Created at the beginning of the last century, the estate was bought and renovated by a wine merchant from Narbonne in 1963 before being acquired in 1988 by its current owners, the Bousquet family. Le Favorite an instant hit and the family embarked on the cultivation of 30 hectares of vines, 27 of which were red and 3 white. Aware of the natural environment that surrounds them, the Bousquet family decided in 1998 to gradually abandon chemical products and obtained Organic Agriculture certification in 2005.
In Pech Redon and throughout the La Clape appellation, the climate is arid, one of the driest in France, with fierce winds blowing almost constantly; there are 13 different winds. However, the altitude and sea spray contrast with this hostile climate to bring freshness. All these climatic characteristics, together with the composition of the clay-limestone and stony soils, contribute to the typical character of the wines.
Christophe Bousquetreceived two prestigious awardsinthe 2018 editions of the Hachette Wine Guide, being named Winemaker of the Year and Favorite Languedoc in the 2018 RVF Green Guide. Today, Château Pech Redon wines are among the benchmarks of the Languedoc region, delivering powerful yet profound wines that are structured and well-built for aging, with a freshness that balances the whole. The whites are rarer, but no less interesting. These are wines with strong personalities that reveal the identity and complexity of the terroir from which they come, bearing the imprint of their creator.
