Château Pech Redon
The Château Pech Redon, a prestigious and renowned estate in the Languedoc, shares its name with the mountain overlooking the vineyards of La Clape, on the hills above Gruissan, very close to Narbonne. This wild and unspoiled mountain range of La Clape, is now a protected natural site, boasting diverse flora and fauna and breathtaking scenery. In June 2015, the Coteaux du Languedoc wines La Clape are granted their own municipal designation. TheLa Clape appellation now includes some thirty estates, including the famous Château Pech Redon.
Founded at the beginning of the last century, the estate was purchased and renovated by a wine merchant from Narbonne in 1963 before being acquired in 1988 by its current owners, the Bousquet family. The Favorite immediately, and the family began cultivating 30 hectares of vineyards, 27 of which are planted with red grapes and 3 with white. Mindful of the natural environment surrounding them, the Bousquet family decided in 1998 to gradually phase out chemical products and obtained organic certification in 2005.
In Pech Redon and throughout the La Clape appellation, the climate is arid—one of the driest in France—with fierce winds blowing almost constantly; there are 13 different wind patterns. However, the altitude and sea mist counterbalance this harsh climate, bringing a refreshing coolness. All these climatic characteristics, combined with the composition of the clay-limestone and stony soils, contribute to the distinctive character of the wines.
Christophe Bousquethas received two prestigious accoladesinthe 2018 editions of the Hachette Wine Guide, being named Winemaker of the Year and Favorite in the 2018 RVF Green Guide. Today, the wines of Château Pech Redon are among the benchmarks of the Languedoc, delivering powerful yet profound wines that are structured yet well-built for aging, with freshness to balance the whole. The whites are becoming rarer, but remain no less interesting. These are wines with strong personalities that reveal the full identity and complexity of the terroir from which they come, bearing the imprint of their creator.
