"An absolutely irresistible wine!"

"Whole cluster vinification for this Syrah and Grenache Noir blend, aged for a long time in vats (18 months), resulting in absolute fullness. Behind a deep color, a seductive nose, very pure and very fresh, centered on black cherry. A soft attack opens onto a rich, full-bodied palate, backed by equally mellow tannins. The long, spicy finish with hints of menthol brings this powerful, velvety, harmonious Minervois to a beautiful close. Already irresistible, it also has excellent aging potential." About wine:

This Syrah and Grenache Noir blend is vinified from whole bunches and aged for a long time in vats (18 months), resulting in a wine of absolute fullness. Behind its deep color lies a seductive, very pure and fresh nose, centered on black cherry. A soft attack opens onto a rich, full-bodied palate, supported by equally mellow tannins. The long, spicy finish with hints of menthol brings this powerful, velvety, harmonious Minervois to a beautiful close. Already irresistible, it also has excellent aging potential.

About the estate:

Established in 1997, Jérôme Portal, who runs several properties in Minervois, not far from Serre d'Oupia, has made his mark in the Guide. He produces a number of wines under different labels: Ch. Beaufort, Ch. Molières, Ch. Artix, Ch. Portal, and Ch. Sainte-Madeleine.

Review and opinion by Mr. SEBASTIEN L. Published on 10/02/2025

Enticed by the ratings and stars given by professionals, I bought six bottles. Very disappointed. It's a little sharp, barely fruity, and the finish leaves a hint of bitterness. It's not bad, but there are (much) better wines available for the same price.

Review and opinion by Mr. MATHIEU W. Published on 11/09/2024

Deep red with ruby at the core. On the nose, dark fruit, blackberries, cassis, plums, raisins, chocolate, green herbs, lovage. Typical of Minervois. On the palate, a sweet attack of ripe and sun-dried dark and red fruit, now also cherries, licorice, and eucalyptus. Juicy, powerful, lots of substance, grip, freshness, firm tannin structure. The wine cries out for a hearty and spicy meat dish. Stew, goulash, chili con carne, etc. Excellent PQR. Aging potential, tannins still need to meld. Score: 16/20

Note and opinion by Mr. FREDERIC B. Published on 11/02/2024

So semi-carbonic vinification is good when it's done right. Unfortunately, in this case, there's a lot of gas left in the bottle, which gives it an unpleasant Beaujolais Nouveau-like quality. This is accompanied by a taste of crushed fruit (perhaps due to the Carignan grape variety), as if the wine were going bad. It's less than €10, but it's not great!

Rated 5 for value for money. A fruity wine with good balance that masks the 14.5% alcohol content. Pairs perfectly with grilled meats.

Review and opinion by Mr. NICOLAS S. Published on 03/30/2024

A powerful nose of jammy fruit (prunes, cherries). On the palate, it is beautifully powerful and long. Aromas of morello cherries, black fruit, and candied fruit are well supported by powerful but mellow tannins.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on March 30, 2024

Favorite this incredibly charming Minervois, where everything tastes just right. With their skillfully restrained power, the old vines galvanize a basket of ripe, crunchy red fruits, accompanied by subtle notes of tapenade and hints of garrigue. Perfectly polished after careful aging, the tannins are extremely soft and caressing, melting into an opulent, smooth palate with remarkable freshness. The texture is savory, enveloped in a touch of richness, almost creamy. The intensity does not waver on the finish, which is deep, sapid, and peppery. A score of 4.5 for this excellent bargain at less than €8. Stock up on cases, especially as its beautiful structure will allow it to stand the test of time. This insolently seductive bottle was shared among friends, after decanting, with honey-marinated duck skewers and grilled mango.
