“This blend of Syrah and Grenache Noir is vinified with whole clusters and aged extensively in tanks (18 months), resulting in a wine of absolute fullness. Behind its deep color lies a seductive, very pure, and very fresh nose centered on black cherry. A soft attack gives way to a rich, full-bodied palate, supported by equally velvety tannins. The long, spicy finish, enhanced by menthol, beautifully rounds out the tasting of this powerful, velvety, harmonious Minervois—already irresistible but with excellent aging potential.” (Le Guide Hachette 2024).

Enticed by the reviews and ratings from the experts, I bought six bottles. I was very disappointed. It’s a bit sharp, barely fruity, and the finish leaves a hint of bitterness. It’s not bad, but there are (much) better options for the same price.

Deep red with a ruby core. On the nose: dark fruit, blackberries, blackcurrants, plums, raisins, chocolate, green herbs, and lovage. Classic Minervois character. On the palate: a sweet attack of ripe, sun-kissed dark and red fruit, now also featuring cherries, licorice, and eucalyptus. Juicy, powerful, full-bodied, grip, freshness, firm tannin structure. The wine cries out for a hearty and spicy meat dish. Stew, goulash, chili con carne, etc. Excellent value for money. Aging potential; tannins still need to mellow. Score: 16/20

Review by Mr. FREDERIC B. Posted on 11/02/2024
Semi-carbonic vinification works well when done right. Unfortunately, in this case, there’s still a lot of gas in the bottle, giving it an unpleasant Beaujolais Nouveau-like quality. This is accompanied by a taste of crushed fruit (perhaps due to the Carignan grape variety), as if the wine were past its prime. It’s under €10, but it’s not great!

A powerful nose with notes of jammy fruit (prunes, cherries). On the palate, it offers impressive power and length. Aromas of sour cherries, black fruit, and candied fruit are well supported by powerful yet integrated tannins.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on March 30, 2024
This utterly charming Minervois Favorite where every element is perfectly balanced and delicious. With their skillfully restrained power, the old vines bring to life a bouquet of ripe, crisp red fruits, accompanied by subtle notes of tapenade and hints of garrigue. Perfectly refined after meticulous aging, the tannins are extremely soft and caressing, blending into an opulent, smooth palate with remarkable freshness. A savory texture, enveloped in a touch of richness, almost creamy. The intensity doesn’t waver on the finish—deep, savory, and peppery. A 4.5 rating for this excellent value at under €8. Stock up by the case, especially since its solid structure will allow it to age well for a long time. This bottle, with its bold charm, was shared among friends, after decanting, with honey-marinated duck skewers and grilled mango.
