Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2025 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

This relatively new winery is run by two agricultural engineers, one of whom is a former director of a Fitou winery who took over the family’s vineyards after they left the cooperative. Following a generous 2016 vintage and great successes in 2017, we were impressed by the high quality of the 2018 vintage, a benchmark wine for schist terroirs. With the 2019 vintage continuing this impressive momentum, we are happy to award them a third star.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2025 guide): 2* Stars (Remarkable wine)

About the estate:

Vivien Roussignol and Marie Toussaint started out in 2011 with just one hectare of goblet-trained vines grown on schist-rich hillsides. They have gradually expanded the vineyard, focusing on old vines and preserving a rich heritage of grape varieties (about twenty today). The 12 hectares have been in the process of converting to organic farming since 2019.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 91/100 (La Revue du Vin de France, July/August 2026)

Selected Wineries (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the wineries listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

This vintage offers the pleasure of a young, spirited wine, balancing spice and fruit, lightness and depth. A little bottle aging will do it a world of good. Be patient.
