Rated Estate (2017 Guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the estate:

Demanding and meticulous, Loïc Mahé takes great care to preserve the balance of the flora and fauna in his vineyard, which has been certified organic since 2008. He built this vineyard from the ground up in 2000, starting with a small plot of land in Savennières that had no vines at the time! With the acquisition of the Château La Franchaie vineyard in 2011, he now cultivates nearly 11 hectares of vines, including a significant collection of vines in Savennières.

Selected Estates (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Having settled in Anjou ten years ago, Loïc Mahé has gradually expanded a vineyard that remains on a human scale (5 hectares). This young biodynamic winemaker aims to express the robust, full-bodied character of the vineyards surrounding Sainte-Gemmes. After a period when the wines were certainly authentic but rough around the edges, the vintages are gaining in precision, even if the aging process still has room for improvement.

Wonderfully aromatic. It paired well with a mild curry. Also fantastic as an aperitif. Excellent value for the price!
