“Lively and mineral”

From a vintage characterized by freshness, this cuvée is lively and mineral. The nose opens with powerful notes of citrus and white-fleshed fruits. The tension from the very first sip defines a structured, crisp, and briny palate. A Savennières to enjoy with fine cuisine!

Rated estate (2017 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the estate:

Demanding and meticulous, Loïc Mahé takes great care to preserve the ecological balance of the flora and fauna in his vineyard, which has been certified organic since 2008. He built this vineyard from the ground up in 2000, starting with a small plot of land in Savennières that had no vines at the time! With the acquisition of the Château La Franchaie vineyard in 2011, he now cultivates nearly 11 hectares of vines, including a significant heritage of vines in Savennières.

Selected Winery (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the wineries listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Based in Anjou for the past ten years, Loïc Mahé has gradually expanded a vineyard that remains on a human scale (5 hectares). This young biodynamic winemaker aims to express the robust, full-bodied character of the vineyards surrounding Sainte-Gemmes. After a period in which the wines were certainly sincere but rough around the edges, the vintages are gaining in precision, even if the aging process still has room for improvement.
