Bettane & Desseauve
Rated wine (2018 guide) 15.5/20 (2014 vintage) (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2021 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
For more than two decades, Catherine and Pierre Breton and their son Paul have demonstrated that organic wine from Touraine can reach great heights while remaining reasonably priced. Their extended maceration periods allow the velvety texture to beautifully complement the pure fruit character of all their wines. Their Bourgueil wines, which account for 10 hectares, regularly feature in our blind tastings. Trinch is a straightforward wine, and the top vintages must absolutely be decanted 2 to 3 hours before serving to fully appreciate the juiciness of Nuits-d’Ivresse, the purity of Perrières, and the chalky touch of Clos-Sénéchal. One of the most refreshing finds in the Loire—don’t hesitate to discover it!

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
For over twenty years, Catherine and Pierre Breton have been successfully carving out a niche for organic wine in Touraine. Their son Paul has joined them at the estate and is responsible for vinifying the Vouvray Pierres Rousses, among other wines. The very fine, soft tannins resulting from long macerations are evident even in the delicious, low-sulfur “thirst-quenching” cuvées Trinch and Avis de Vin Fort, which are meant to be enjoyed young. The terroir-driven wines (Clos Sénéchal, Les Perrières, and Nuits d'Ivresse, made from Grand-Mont and Busardières vines), which are more intense, have never displayed as much finesse and precision as in the latest vintages, while retaining a slightly wild character that gives them great depth. They also age very well.
