2*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

“In his first year at the helm of the estate, Philippe Ivanic has made a big splash with this sweet wine from a plot of old vines planted in curved rows. The must was vinified in barrels, where it aged for eleven months. The color is pale with golden highlights. The nose, still subtle, is focused on fruit. The palate unfolds long and harmoniously, without hiding its sweet character, releasing aromas of honey, pineapple, and ripe grapes, supported by a refreshing acidity that complements it well. Already excellent, and will remain so for a long time.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019)

About the wine:

In his first year at the helm of the estate, Philippe Ivanic has made a big splash with this sweet wine from a plot of old vines planted in curved rows. The must was vinified in barrels, where it aged for eleven months. The color is pale with golden highlights. The nose, still subtle, is fruit-forward. The palate unfolds long and harmoniously, without masking its sweet character, releasing aromas of honey, pineapple, and ripe grapes, supported by a refreshing acidity that complements the wine well. Already excellent, and it will age beautifully.

About the estate:

After studying at the “Viti” in Beaune and spending two years at La Croix Mélier while continuing to work intermittently as an actor, Philippe Ivancic took over in 2017 from Pascal Berthelot and his 12.5 ha of vineyards (certified organic since 2022), which he cultivates with his wife, Dominique.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Montlouis-sur-Loire is the land that gives rise to fascinating Chenin wines in all their forms—sparkling, dry, delicate, or sweet. It is here that Philippe Weiss and Dominique Ivancic, who switched careers to become winemakers, chose to launch their venture. He was an actor in Paris; she was a microcredit development officer. After training at the Beaune wine school, they settled in Montlouis in 2017, a year marked by a devastating frost. But the couple kept the faith and, with great enthusiasm, determination, and hard work, converted the vineyards to organic farming. From the moment they arrived, they have produced honest, straightforward whites—whose rough edges contribute to their charm—with a freedom of expression that is anything but decadent.

A magnificent Chenin that deserves to be better known.

Tasted on 10/20. Aromas of white fruits (pear, peach). The palate is full-bodied, rich, and very well-balanced. Very full-bodied and a real pleasure to drink.

Unfortunately, the wine had a corked taste. Too bad—it seemed like it had great potential to be enjoyable.
