"From Father to Daughter: a limited-edition cuvée worth discovering!"

Jeanne Germain offers us this wine made purely for pleasure—a Cabernet Franc gently extracted from clay-rich soil. Produced without added sulfur, unfiltered, and aged in old barrels, this wine expresses lovely, deliciously sweet fruit. The palate is generous, with supple tannins and a fresh finish.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

La Foulée 2022, aged for eight months in used barrels and a single 12-hectoliter wooden vat, is made from grapes grown on clay soils. It offers a reserved bouquet of dark wild berries, flowers, and spices. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine is round and supple but has a somewhat austere character, with structured tannins and a long, mineral finish.

Rated Estate Tasting Review

About the estate:

From her father, she inherited a love of the land and the soil. In the Saumur region, the name Germain naturally brings to mind the famous Roches Neuves estate in Varrains. Jeanne, the youngest daughter of the charismatic Thierry Germain, began her journey four years ago with Ben and Comtesse, two Ardennes horses, working in animal-drawn agricultural services. It was her father who instilled in her the sensitivity and determination that allow her to work the land with these two sturdy steeds: a total of seven hectares across Les Roches Neuves and eight other estates in the Anjou region. But Jeanne felt she needed a bit of winemaking experience to truly flourish. She’s been working on that since 2019. In 2020, she released her second “Foulée,” a delicious micro-cuvée of gently extracted Cabernet Franc.

Purple-red color. On the nose, aromas of white flowers, earthiness, and a hint of mocha. On the palate, sultry, ripe, and soft Cabernet Franc fruit. Dark fruit, along with earthy notes, spice, and bell pepper. Good body and soft tannins. Fruit-forward and modern in style. Score: 15.5/20
