(2012 Vintage Notes)

The Savennières Fidès is sourced from four different schist terroirs and opens with dominant notes of pear and citrus, accompanied by intense mineral touches and hints of dried fruit. On the palate, it is round and creamy, with a beautiful balance between smoothness and freshness, great mineral tension, and plenty of depth… A truly authentic Savennières!

Rated Estate (2015 Guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the estate:

Éric Morgat, a native of Layon, produces a Savennières made from very low yields, harvested when ripe and aged in oak. On his organically farmed land, he sought roundness rather than the sharp character of Chenin. In recent vintages, we have seen a shift in style toward more straightforward wines; the 2010 vintage is a prime example of this pursuit of purity. The white Anjou, from a plot purchased in 2002 in the Pierre Bise area and planted in 2003 on spilite, yields a Litus cuvée full of tension.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 18/20 (Vintage 2012) (Great wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, belong in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Born on the south bank, Eric Morgat is now firmly established in Savennières. He has built up a rare vineyard portfolio, situated on prized plots such as La Roche-aux-Moines and a splendid hillside replanted at La Pierre-Bécherelle. The harvest focuses on botrytis-free Chenin Blanc grapes, vinified in barrels (20% new), with partial malolactic fermentation. Starting in 2012, the Fidès cuvée replaced the Enclos, whose original plot has since expanded to include various terroirs that have been planted. The wines achieve a precision and intensity uncommon for Anjou, thanks to the constant questioning of this perfectionist winemaker, who never ceases to refine every detail in pursuit of improvement. At the pinnacle of Savennières, the estate earned its second star last year.
