"Seductive and succulent" (James Suckling) "

"The Côtes de Provence Rosé Garrus 2023 is a real success, offering a seductive bouquet of pomegranate, spice, ripe orchard fruit and red berries, delicately framed by subtle woody nuances. Medium to full-bodied, lively and ample, it is complex and textured, with a fruity core and a touch of freshness that enhances the finish. This is a structured, sophisticated rosé that can age gracefully, promising to reveal more complexity over the next 4-5 years." (Wine Advocate 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2018 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

Since 2006, this estate has belonged to Sacha Lichine, former owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine in Margaux. With the help of Patrick Léon (ex-Mouton-Rothschild), he has largely taken over to produce wines of great definition. Their Garrus cuvée is probably the most expensive Provence rosé on the market.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 97/100

About the wine:

From a single vineyard of very old vines, some of which are nearly a century old, Garrus is the flagship of Domaine Esclan wines. Although still very young, I feel that, like Les Clans, it has reached new heights in the 2023 vintage. It's very fragrant and floral on the nose, a little prettier, more elegant and more precise than Les Clans 2023, while the palate shows fascinating purity and tension. It offers succulent, perfumed aromas of white peach and tantalizing salinity and minerality. The oak is under control and the wine is still very tight, but its density, energy, length and refinement are undeniable. If you drink it this year (2025), give it time to open up in the glass, or consider decanting it.

About the domain :

A famous match manufacturer from Marseilles in the 1850s, Joseph Toussaint Caussemille was one of the many owners of Château d'Esclans, and gave his name to the estate, which was commissioned by a 19th-century building inspired by Tuscan villas and built on the remains of a medieval château. Sacha Lichine, son of the late Alexis Lichine, former owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine, took over this 267-hectare estate (including 44 hectares of vines) in 2006, renowned for its wood-aged rosés.

About the wine:

Pale salmon. A pleasant, interesting nose, with a hint of honeysuckle and well-integrated acidity. Herbaceous note and (just) sufficient freshness. I could imagine enjoying it with a meal, although I find it a little too heavy (both the wine and the bottle) as an aperitif. A certain persistence. Well done! (JR)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

A splendid rosé, intense and taut. It reveals notes of lemon tea, melon, fresh apricots, wild herbs and a few mineral touches. Medium to full-bodied, with lively acidity. Seductive and succulent, it offers a cascade of tangy fruit on the palate, harmoniously framed, which continues into a long finish. For drinking or cellaring.
