"Seductive and succulent" (James Suckling)

"The Côtes de Provence Rosé Garrus 2023 is a real success, offering an enticing bouquet of pomegranate, spices, ripe orchard fruits, and red berries, delicately framed by subtle woody nuances. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, lively and ample, it is complex and textured, with a fruity core and a touch of freshness that enhances the finish. This is a structured and sophisticated rosé that can age with elegance, promising to reveal more complexity over the next 4 to 5 years." (Wine Advocate 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2018 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Since 2006, this estate has belonged to Sacha Lichine, former owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine in Margaux. He has taken it back into his own hands to produce wines of great definition, with the help of Patrick Léon (formerly of Mouton-Rothschild). Their Garrus cuvée is probably the most expensive Provence rosé on the market.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 97/100

About wine:

Produced from a single vineyard composed of very old vines, some of which are nearly a century old, Garrus is the flagship wine of the Esclan estate. Although still very young, I feel that, like Les Clans, it has reached new heights in the 2023 vintage. It is very fragrant and floral on the nose, a little prettier, more elegant, and more precise than Les Clans 2023, while the palate offers fascinating purity and tension. It offers succulent and fragrant aromas of white peach and enticing salinity and minerality. The oak is controlled and the wine is still very tight, but its density, energy, length, and refinement are undeniable. If you drink it this year (2025), give it time to open up in the glass or consider decanting it.

Rated estate (2018 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the estate:

A famous match manufacturer in Marseille in the 1850s, Joseph Toussaint Caussemille was one of the many owners of Château d'Esclans and gave his name to this estate, which is dominated by a 19th-century building inspired by Tuscan villas and built on the ruins of a medieval castle. Sacha Lichine, son of the late Alexis Lichine, former owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine, took over this 267-hectare estate (including 44 hectares of vineyards) in 2006. It is renowned for its rosé wines aged in oak.

About wine:

Pale salmon. This wine has a pleasant and interesting nose, with a hint of honeysuckle and well-integrated acidity. Herbaceous notes and just enough freshness. I could imagine enjoying it with a meal, even though I find it a little too heavy (both the wine and the bottle) as an aperitif. Some persistence. Well done! (JR)

James Suckling

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100

About wine:

A splendid, intense, and taut rosé. It reveals notes of lemon tea, melon, fresh apricots, wild herbs, and a few mineral touches. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, with lively acidity. Seductive and succulent, it offers a cascade of tart fruits on the palate, harmoniously framed, which linger in a long finish. Drink now or keep.
