Bettane & Desseauve
“The Syrah slightly dominates the Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, and Carignan. Rich in color, yet subtle and full of beautiful fruit nuances, the full-bodied wine is framed by well-integrated and highly stimulating tannins. A beautiful, invigorating, and pure finish. ” (The Guide to the Best Wines of France 2020 - RVF) Sourced from the highest-quality plots, this great wine beautifully expresses its terroir and unique character. Aged in barrels to enhance and harmonize its aromas, it is a wine with excellent aging potential—dense, rich, and structured, with depth and beautiful aromatic complexity. A great red from the South!

It pairs well with game served with lingonberries or chutney; meats in a heavily reduced sauce will complement it delicately.

Rated estate (2023 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Vintage after vintage, Revelette has established itself as a grand cru of Provence. Tucked away in a valley on the northern slope of Sainte-Victoire Mountain, Peter Fischer has been running the estate since the mid-1980s, employing viticultural practices that aim to be as natural as possible. Surrounded by forests, the vineyards are set in a wild, unspoiled setting and transform in the spring into a vast meadow of flowers. A generous soul, Peter also keeps Kiki, a domesticated pig, peacocks, chickens, dogs, and cats at his home—reminiscent of Pippi Longstocking’s house. This passion for life is reflected right down to the glass, in wines that are refined and true to their character. Recently, the younger generation has been stepping up, and his daughter Clara is on her way to taking on the challenge.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
5-star rated estate (Outstanding production)
About the estate:
Revelette comprises 24 hectares of vineyards, 12 plots situated between 330 and 400 meters above sea level, planted with 9 grape varieties, primarily reds (Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, and also Cabernet). This is the northernmost terroir of the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation, all located about thirty kilometers north of Aix, in Jouques. But Revelette is also, above all, Peter Fischer and his partner Sandra, who manage the vineyard using organic farming methods, including plowing, natural grass cover, and the use of sheep manure, among other practices.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
Syrah slightly dominates Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, and Carignan. Rich in color, yet understated and featuring lovely fruity nuances, the full-bodied wine is framed by well-integrated and highly stimulating tannins. It has a lovely, invigorating, and pure finish.
About the estate:
Located in a cool terroir in the upper reaches of the appellation, in the town of Jouques, and neighboring Château de Vignelaure, this magnificent estate has been in the capable hands of Peter Fischer since the 1985 vintage. The vineyards have been certified organic since 1998. German by birth, Provençal by adoption, Peter Fischer broke new ground in the 1980s by planting Chardonnay in Provence with a vision of producing great white wines. At an altitude of about 400 meters, this terroir is ideal for preserving a brilliant balance in the whites that delight us today. We are perplexed by the reds, which lack precision. This is likely due to the cellar environment, which depends on the winemaker’s rigor. Peter Fischer’s children, Clara and Hugo, now assist him at the estate.

A bit disappointing considering the price. I much preferred the white (or a good Bandol).
