"Le Grand Saint-Paul" is produced by Jérôme Grieco, a winemaker from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, who has been consistently praised by international critics since his first vintage in 2009. In 2013, *La Revue du Vin de France* named it "Discovery of the Year." This wine is made from grapes grown on a plot of Côtes-du-Rhône Village, and as Jérôme Grieco himself describes it, “it’s the estate’s little Châteauneuf.” Lively, with a lovely, blood-red color and crisp acidity, and a fresh, lingering finish, it’s a sure bet—but in limited quantities!

Rated estate (2016 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
Located in the vineyards near Orange, the 5 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape include century-old vines, which explains the intensity of the 2012 vintage presented here. The Côtes-du-Rhône wines from the same estate are also remarkable, and the young winemaking couple now in charge is doing an exemplary job. Before this wine becomes too well-known, give it a chance to find a place in your cellar.

Review by Mr. CHRISTIAN R. Published on February 15, 2016
This wine had a strong reductive aroma upon opening. It was not decanted but left to breathe for 24 hours with the bottle open. The aroma faded but did not disappear. Although marketed as a “Petit Châteauneuf,” it lacks any of its characteristics, even in a “petit” version. You can mainly smell the Syrah and Mourvèdre, not the Grenache. In my opinion, it’s the high proportion of Mourvèdre that’s the problem. Mourvèdre is a complicated grape, and when it’s mishandled, it often smells like wild boar that’s been running for too long.
