About the estate:
Jérôme Coursodon heads one of the renowned estates in Mauves. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) differ from those further north, around Sarras, even though they are all produced on granitic soils. The estate’s reds are often more fully developed than the whites.

About the estate:
Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son—who took over in 1999—manage 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Saint-Joseph, primarily the red variety. For many years, the estate’s wines have been featured in the Guide’s selections: displaying rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and “ Favorites.”

About the estate:
The Coursodon family has been in the wine business since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned regions of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The whites display a lovely character, without excessive oak. As for the reds, L’Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, we found the most recent vintages to be overly showy, with very pronounced oak notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to drink. We regret having to deduct one star from the estate’s rating.

Following “Etincelle” in 2015, this new vintage from the multi-starred Coursodon estate was bound to arouse the greatest curiosity. The result is a success: guaranteed pleasure at an affordable price. A crystal-clear rosé color. A nose of English candy. Pure Syrah at 12.5%. Dazzling smoothness, exuberant body, and abundant aromatics with accents of cherries, red currants, and cranberries, enlivened by subtle notes of sweet spices. Full on the palate, slightly rich, and just a touch sweet, with deliciously supple tannins that stretch into a long, mouth-watering, and very refreshing finish, with a hint of pepper. Rating: 4.4. Much like its violet-colored cork, this sensual, deliciously indulgent rosé was unanimously enjoyed at 8°—from the appetizer through to a dish of salmon, spinach, and Parmesan lasagna. A useful reminder from Coursodon: the work of the winemakers and producers accounts for 35% of the price of the bottle and its contents; the remaining 65% consists of production taxes levied by the “Welfare” State or the “Mama” State, which is addicted to public spending...
