"Fans of the northern Rhône have found their favorite classic!"
"In a slightly more modern style, the 2024 Saint-Joseph Olivaie offers aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, spicy wood, and violets on the nose. These notes linger on the palate, resulting in a medium- to full-bodied, concentrated, and complex Saint-Joseph that displays the incredible purity and finesse characteristic of the estate. It is ripe, balanced, and offers exceptional length on the palate." (Jeb Dunnuck 2026)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)
About the estate:
Jérôme Coursodon heads one of the renowned estates in Mauves. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) differ from those further north, around Sarras, even though all are produced on granite soils. The estate’s reds are often more fully developed than the whites.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100
Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
With more intense fruit aromas than some 2024s, this wine is currently reserved and youthful. It is ripe on the palate, easy to enjoy, welcoming, and seductive. Beautiful fruit density and well-integrated oak that doesn't overpower the wine. It displays good length and concentration, making it a good choice this year. Made from 60-year-old vines, entirely destemmed, grown on granitic soil near Mauves, with 15% new oak.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son—who took over in 1999—manage 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Saint-Joseph, primarily the red variety. For many years, the wines from this estate have been featured in the Guide’s selections: with rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and Favorites designations.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
The Coursodon family has been in the wine business since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned regions of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The whites display a lovely character, without excessive oak. As for the reds, L'Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, the most recent vintages struck us as overly assertive, with very pronounced oak notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to drink. We regretfully have to remove one star from the estate’s rating.

About the wine:
The nose is very seductive, offering a little bit of everything: savory aromas of ripe wild berries, along with floral and graphite notes. Lively, fresh acidity provides structure, while the juicy, fleshy fruit is supported by fine tannins. This wine is bursting with vibrancy and offers a complex and refined finish.
