"Fans of Northern Rhône wines have found their favorite classic!"

“With a slightly more modern style, the 2024 Saint-Joseph Olivaie offers aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, spicy oak, and violets on the nose. These notes carry through on the palate, resulting in a medium- to full-bodied Saint-Joseph that is concentrated and complex, displaying the incredible purity and finesse characteristic of the estate. It is ripe, balanced, and offers exceptional length on the palate.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2026)

Rated estate (2024 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Jérôme Coursodon heads one of the renowned estates in Mauves. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) differ from those further north, around Sarras, even though all are produced on granitic soils. The estate’s reds are often more mature than its whites.

Decanter

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

With fruit aromas that are more intense than some 2024 vintages, this wine is currently reserved and youthful. It is ripe on the palate, easy to enjoy, inviting, and appealing. It has lovely fruit density and well-balanced oak that doesn’t overpower. It offers good length and concentration, making it a solid choice this year. Made from 60-year-old vines, fully destemmed, grown on granite soil near Mauves, with 15% new oak.

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son—who took over in 1999—manage 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Saint-Joseph, primarily the red variety. For many years, the wines from this estate have been featured in the Guide’s selections: with rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and Favorites designations.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

The Coursodon family has been in the wine business since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned regions of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The whites display a lovely character, without excessive oak. As for the reds, L'Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, the most recent vintages struck us as overly assertive, with very pronounced oak notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to drink. We regretfully have to remove one star from the estate’s rating.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

The nose is very appealing, offering a bit of everything: savory, with aromas of ripe wild berries, as well as floral and graphite notes. Lively, fresh acidity provides structure, while the juicy, full-bodied fruit is supported by fine tannins. This wine is bursting with vibrancy and offers a complex, refined finish.
