Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Jérôme Coursodon heads one of the renowned estates in Mauves. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) differ from those further north, around Sarras, even though all are produced on granite soils. The estate’s reds are often more fully developed than the whites.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

On the nose, aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves dominate, with woody notes. The palate is round, ripe, concentrated yet fresh—very impressive. The fruit is ripe enough to harmonize with the oak, and the finish is fresh and long. It will take a long time for the oak to integrate, but this wine will be excellent with age. It will seem very oaky if you drink it young. Old vines, destemmed, aged in 100% new oak barrels.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son—who took over in 1999—manage 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Saint-Joseph, primarily the red variety. For many years, the wines from this estate have been featured in the Guide’s selections: with rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and Favorites designations.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

The Coursodon family has been in the wine business since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned regions of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The whites display a lovely character, without excessive oak. As for the reds, L'Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, the most recent vintages struck us as overly assertive, with very pronounced oak notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to drink. We regretfully have to remove one star from the estate’s rating.

Rated winery (2023 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

A bold, full-bodied nose with notes of toasted nuts and sweet flowers. The palate is juicy and well-defined, with well-integrated oak that supports the tannic structure; it is juicy, complex, and very well-balanced. Beautiful fruit concentration. Enticing.
