"Darker notes of redcurrant, blackcurrant, sappy flowers, violets and peppery bouquet garni emerge from Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes 2022, another powerful, full-bodied Cornas with an excellent mid-palate, ripe, well-built tannins and an excellent finish. At this stage, it's more like Vieilles Fontaines, except a little richer." (Jeb Dunnuck 2024)

Decanter
Wine rated (2023 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
Aromas of bay leaves and black and green olives. Full-bodied and juicy on the palate, but retains a herbaceous vein that carries through to the finish. This is an eye-catching, highly textured Cornas. It may well gain in maturity once bottled.

About the domain :
Alain Voge joined his father on the family estate in 1958. Abandoning mixed farming, replanting abandoned hillsides, selling direct from the bottle, he set the vineyard on track, 12 hectares now cultivated organically and biodynamically. Regularly in the spotlight for his cornas and saint-péray.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Cornas Vieilles Vignes 2022 is darker and bloodier than its counterparts, evoking aromas of violets, iris and blackberry. Medium to full-bodied, layered and structured, it has a dense, fleshy fruit core, structured, velvety tannins and an elegantly muscular profile, culminating in a long, spicy finish. Aged for 20 months in barrels, 10% of which are new, this wine has great ageing potential, with an expected longevity of around 15 years.
About the domain :
Despite the climatic challenges of 2021, general manager Lionel Fraisse was all smiles when I rang the doorbell of the small tasting room in the village of Cornas. I thought I caught a glimpse of the widow Voge behind the curtains to my right, where she continues to live since Alain's death in 2020. There will be no Saint-Péray Ongrie from 2021, nor Saint-Péray pétillant from this year, says Fraisse, as these vineyards have been devastated by frost and mildew. In addition, Fraisse said no decision had yet been made on the separate bottling of a 2020 Chapelle Saint Pierre and a Vieilles Fontaines. Fortunately, the 2019 versions here are solid, with the 2019 Vieilles Fontaines (still in barrel at the time of my visit) particularly impressive. We took advantage of my visit to inquire about some of the 2011 and 2001 wines, so owners of these will find updated reviews in this report. This organic estate remains a great source of Cornas and Saint-Péray.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
The entire vineyard has been certified biodynamic since 2013. The estate boasts exceptional hillside vineyards, entirely worked by hand. The presence of old vines also contributes to producing wines with a strong personality. The Fleur de Crussol cuvée, located in the La Côte area, comes from a vineyard over 70 years old. Since the 2015 vintage, the Terres Boisées cuvée bears the name of the parcel it comes from: Ongrie, located on granitic alluvium. Les Vinsonnes has also been renamed Les Côtes, after the terroir in the village of Mauves. In red, Les Vieilles Fontaines comes from 80-year-old vines planted on decomposed granite.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 16,5/20
About the wine:
Black fruit, fig, ground coffee and peppery notes. The palate is balanced, with fine, ripe tannins, good concentration and a certain freshness of fruit. Well-balanced alcohol and well-dosed oak frame the wine nicely. Seductive and pure.
Vinous
Wine rated (2024 guide) 92-94/100
About the wine:
Cornas Les Vieilles Vignes 2022 is made from grapes grown between 200 and 350 meters above sea level on granite soils. Powerful and refined, it overflows with ripe, intense black fruits, followed by hints of blueberry and traces of cedar, graphite and stellar subtleties. Ripe but polished tannins give excellent structure to this full-bodied, flavorful Cornas 2022.
