"The 2017 Costières de Nîmes Lou Coucardié reminds me a bit of a classic, old-school Bandol with its ripe, seductive, and incredibly full-bodied profile. Bursting with fruit and offering plenty of aromas of spiced meat, garrigue, pepper, and new saddle leather, along with full-bodied richness, soft tannins, and a long finish, this is quite a Costières de Nîmes. It can be enjoyed now, but it has enough tannins to warrant a short period of aging and should age beautifully for over a decade. [...]” (Jeb Dunnuck)

Wine rated 15.5/20 (Very good wine)

About the wine:

A beautiful expression of Roussanne and Grenache, a vibrant wine blending white flowers with subtle spices.

Wine rated 90–92/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2017 Costières de Nîmes Lou Coucardié is a blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, and 20% Syrah, which spends two full years in 500- and 600-liter demi-muids. Aromas of dried spices and cola accentuate the bright berry notes on the nose of this full-bodied yet supple wine, which becomes velvety but remains slightly open on the long finish.

Selected Winery (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the wineries listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

With a pragmatic approach and sound principles, Michel Gassier restructured the vineyard and equipped himself with the means to produce fine wines, both white and red. The prestigious vintages named Joseph Torrès reach their full potential after one to three years in the bottle, while the other wines can be enjoyed in their prime youth.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

This powerful and rather uncompromising red wine from the south boasts an intense, balsamic nose with hints of leather and ash, and plenty of character. It features a very solid tannic structure and a full-bodied finish. A Mourvèdre-based blend. Made from organically grown grapes. Ready to drink now or for aging.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on August 16, 2022

Toro La Brava or a Dodge RAM 5.7 4x4? One thing is certain: the moment you turn the key, the wine takes off with a powerful burst of acceleration that propels the palate—slim and refined, without being heavy or harsh—into a complex whirlwind of infused black and red fruits, blended with spices and sprinkled with succulent notes of garrigue, bourbon vanilla, and leather that attest to meticulous aging. It then purrs along in a rich and pulpy mid-palate thanks to a full, deep body, supported by a fleshy texture and refined tannins. The power continues into a beautiful, savory, and sap-filled finish, softened by a touch of freshness. An exceptional Costières that will continue to improve, as it has plenty of potential. To celebrate Saint Mary’s Day with the family, enjoyed with slow-roasted marinated kid on a spit, allowing you to appreciate the meat’s delicate tenderness and delicious smokiness on the palate. Rating: 4.5.
