"A lovely mineral structure for this intense and deep Syrah."
A cuvée from the steepest terroirs in the northern part of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, La Viallière offers an intense mineral character, due to the schist and mica schist that are omnipresent on the plot. This is a wine with great depth and structure, supported by generous substance without heaviness. Juicy black fruits and spices characterize this remarkable cuvée, which will express itself perfectly in a few years. • Very limited quantities.

Eye
Deep garnet red color with purple highlights
Nose
Intense, with black fruit (blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant), floral aromas of violet, and lovely spicy notes marked by pepper and licorice. Aeration reveals more complex nuances: smoky touches, noble leather, and a hint of bitter cocoa.
Mouth
Ample and fleshy attack, with beautiful energy. Tannic structure, firm but ripe, supporting generous substance without heaviness. Remarkable depth in the mid-palate, alternating juicy black fruits, spices, and a mineral texture that brings tension. Long and persistent finish, combining power and freshness.

About the estate:
The Jean-Michel Gerin estate was created in 1983 with the purchase of a plot of vines in Côte-Rôtie. Jean-Michel comes from a family that has been in the region for six generations. The estate's first vintage was produced in 1987, following the integration of the family vineyards (those of Marcel and Alfred Guerin) into the Jean-Michel Gerin estate. In 1988, the estate carried out its first separate vinification, first at a place called "Les Grandes Places," then in 1996 with grapes from the "La Landonne" plot. The winemaker undertook work in the early 1990s, and the Jean-Michel Gerin estate acquired a vat room and a barrel cellar. The vineyard expanded in 2003, when planting began on the "La Viallière" plot in Côte-Rôtie, on slopes with gradients of 40% to 60%. The first vintages were produced in 2009. Michaël and Alexis Gerin later joined the Jean-Michel Gerin estate, which expanded to a dozen hectares in the 2010s.
