Robert Parker
"A lovely mineral framework for this deep, intense Syrah".
La Viallière comes from very steep terroirs in the northern part of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It has an intense mineral aspect, due to the omnipresent schist and mica-schist on the plot. This is a wine of great depth and structure, supported by generous body without heaviness. Juicy black fruits and spices for this remarkable cuvée, which will express itself perfectly in a few years. - Very limited quantities.

Eye
Deep garnet-red with purplish highlights
Nose
Intense, with black fruits (blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant), floral violet aromas and lovely spicy notes marked by pepper and licorice. Aeration reveals more complex nuances: a touch of smoke, noble leather and a hint of bitter cocoa.
Mouth
Full, fleshy attack, with good energy. Firm but ripe tannic structure supports a generous body without heaviness. Remarkable depth on the mid-palate, alternating juicy black fruits, spices and a mineral framework that adds tension. Long, persistent finish, combining power and freshness.

About the domain :
Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin was created in 1983 with the purchase of a parcel of vines in Côte-Rôtie. Jean-Michel comes from a family that has been established in the region for 6 generations. The estate's first cuvée was created in 1987, following the integration of the family vineyards (those of Marcel and Alfred Guerin) into the Jean-Michel Gerin estate. In 1988, the estate carried out its first separate vinification, first on the "Les Grandes Places" plot, then in 1996 with grapes from the "La Landonne" parcel. In the early 1990s, Jean-Michel Gerin undertook the construction of a new winery and barrel cellar. The vineyard expanded in 2003, with the planting of the "La viallière" parcel in Côte-Rôtie, on slopes ranging from 40% to 60%. The first vintages are produced in 2009. Michaël and Alexis Gerin later joined the Jean-Michel Gerin estate, which expanded to a dozen hectares in the 2010s.
