Domaine Jean-Michel Gérin - Côte-Rôtie Côte-Bodin 2023
"A demanding but exceptional terroir"
Côte-Bodin is a dome with three positions on the same plot, located in the center of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. One slope faces east, another faces south, and the last faces southwest, bringing freshness but also revealing the power of Syrah. The demanding terroir with a lot of iron oxide gives a sanguine character and refined tannins. A straightforward, lively but silky cuvée with generous, fruity substance without heaviness • Very limited quantities.

Nose
Intense fruitiness of wild blackberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry, complemented by notes of violet, black pepper, and licorice. With aeration, notes of wet stone and light smoke appear, reminiscent of the mineral terroir.
Mouth
Straightforward, lively yet silky. Generous and fruity without being heavy: blackberry mingles with a hint of graphite, while firm but polished tannins ensure a beautiful balance. The finish is long and taut, dominated by a salty freshness that prolongs the tasting experience, leaving a trail of black fruits, spice, and warm rock.

About the estate:
The Jean-Michel Gerin estate was created in 1983 with the purchase of a plot of vines in Côte-Rôtie. Jean-Michel comes from a family that has been in the region for six generations. The estate's first vintage was produced in 1987, following the integration of the family vineyards (those of Marcel and Alfred Guerin) into the Jean-Michel Gerin estate. In 1988, the estate carried out its first separate vinification, first at a place called "Les Grandes Places," then in 1996 with grapes from the "La Landonne" plot. The winemaker undertook work in the early 1990s, and the Jean-Michel Gerin estate acquired a vat room and a barrel cellar. The vineyard expanded in 2003, when planting began on the "La Viallière" plot in Côte-Rôtie, on slopes with gradients of 40% to 60%. The first vintages were produced in 2009. Michaël and Alexis Gerin later joined the Jean-Michel Gerin estate, which expanded to a dozen hectares in the 2010s.
