Vinous
"An exceptional vintage that needs time to reveal its full potential."
"The 2023 Côte Rôtie Champon's offers a beautiful palette of red and black fruits mixed with notes of spicy herbs, loamy earth, graphite, and a few floral touches. It is well-balanced, with an elegant and well-structured palate, and enough tannins to justify 2 to 3 years of cellaring. It should evolve elegantly. (Jeb Dunnuck 2025)

Clear, deep dark purple color with mahogany and ebony highlights
Nose
Expressive, generous, and open. The syrupy concentration of fruit rivals the intensity of the bouquet, spicy, and roasted notes: fresh wood, mocha, Damask rose, smoked bacon, cherry juice, and plum in alcohol, vanilla, cocoa, and Sichuan pepper.
Mouth
Opulent and energetic, it exudes a consummate power, enhanced by the warm, spicy richness of its aromatics, the silky depth of its texture, and the refined firmness of its structure.

About the estate:
After studying in Beaune, then gaining experience in the United States and in the Bordeaux region, on his wife's estate (Ch. Filliol), Stéphane Pichat returned to his homeland to breathe new life into this old property, founded by his great-grandparents. Settling there in 2000, he began bottling wines and, from 5 hectares in Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu, produced wines of consistently impeccable quality.
Vinous
Wine rated (2024 guide) 91-93/100
About wine:
The 2023 Côte-Rôtie Champon's makes its entrance with notes of cherry cola, black plum, smoked licorice, cedar, and iodine. Medium-bodied, round, and juicy, the 2023 promises to be a fruity and elegant Côte-Rôtie from Stéphane Pichat, with an exhilarating finish.
