Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)

About the domain :

Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent created this association of excellence in the early 1990s, becoming one of the finest micro-negociants in the Rhône Valley. Today, Bastien and Michel Tardieu criss-cross the vineyards to find the best supplies, generally grapes from very old vines, often located in the historic heart of each appellation. In recent vintages, a real transformation has taken place: large casks, vinification using whole grapes for certain cuvées and, above all, a more measured approach to ageing have raised the already excellent level even higher. A sure bet for the region.

Vinous

Vinous

Wine rated (2023 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

The deep purple Côte-Rôtie Vieilles Vignes 2021 is 13% alcohol. Ripe red fruits, cedar, licorice and meaty nuances all come to the fore. Medium-bodied, round and polished, the 2021 engages the palate with good concentration and lively acidity. The ripe but firm tannins require a few more years in bottle. It closes with persistence on a sapid finish.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

The Côte Rôtie Vieilles Vignes 2021 is another wine well within the vintage with its more medium-bodied, slightly textured, yet balanced style. Black raspberries, peppery herbs, flowers and subtle game notes all define this classic 2021, and it can be enjoyed nicely today while keeping for 10 to 12 years.
