About the estate:

Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent founded this prestigious winery in the early 1990s, establishing themselves as one of the top micro-negociants in the Rhône Valley. Today, Bastien and Michel Tardieu travel throughout the vineyards to source the finest grapes, typically from very old vines, often located in the historic heart of each appellation. A real transformation has taken place in recent vintages: large-capacity casks, whole-cluster vinification for certain cuvées, and, above all, more measured aging have raised the already excellent standard to an even higher level. A sure bet in the region.

A blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre from Lirac, Rasteau, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise, and Roaix, aged in a combination of second- and third-use barrels, followed by additional time in large oak casks, the 2018 Guy Louis Côtes du Rhône features floral and spicy aromas, notes of garrigue and baking spices, as well as plenty of cherry fruit. It is medium- to full-bodied, silky and refined, with a lingering, slightly oaky finish.

Deep purple. The nose is quite different from the Becs Fins. Does the Mourvèdre make such a difference? A labor-intensive yet fascinating wine with a much softer texture. Pure pleasure and approachability. A lovely little finish, but the balance is excellent for drinking young or in the medium term.
