A true food lover at heart, Jean-Luc Colombo never needs to be asked twice to step into the kitchen and whip up his signature recipes. This is undoubtedly what inspired him to create the Les Abeilles cuvée: simple, charming, and warm wines. The 2009 Red is full of notes of red berries, cilantro, and bay leaf. Absolutely delicious!

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Laure Colombo, a young and brilliant oenologist, joined the family business in Cornas but wanted to establish her own estate on the outskirts, in the hills above Saint-Péray, to find her footing; starting this year, she is offering a Saint-Péray and a Cornas from her estate in Lorient. Joining doesn’t mean taking over; Jean-Luc is still here, so the range is built as a family effort, spanning the vineyards of the Côte Bleue and the Rhône, and of course the sourcing activities, sometimes under the Colombo & Fille label, sometimes under Jean-Luc Colombo. The Cornas wines remain the flagship wines here; it must be said that the modern, efficient winery is built at the foot of the hillside! In 2017, the delicious Vallon-de-l’Aigle will be in short supply—only two barrels were produced!
